What is pitchNEHST?
PitchNEHST is the access point for all content proposed to NEHST Studios. The general public and pros alike can register concepts with us and send in an application to submit materials. We accept applications online and require a signed release before we will read any work. NEHST holds live pitch sessions in groups and one on one, as well as participating in other events and festivals.
Who are you and why are you doing this?
NEHST Studios produces feature films, television, and internet projects. It was founded by Oscar-winning producer Larry Meistrich (‘Sling Blade,’ ‘You Can Count on Me,’ ‘Belly,’ ‘Croupier.’) and a team of seasoned industry execs. NEHST is funded to produce a major slate of projects and has domestic and international distribution. We are doing this because Larry thinks the industry has been closed to new talent for too long, and that some of the best thinking comes from outside the traditional sources.
Do you really do deals from these pitches?
Yes. We have already done seven development and production deals from projects pitched in person and online. This is not a contest; there is no “award.” We are actively adding projects to our slate and are funded to produce them.
What kind of work can I pitch you?
Nehst is looking for work in all media – feature films, television, and internet concepts. We will accept treatments, complete scripts, under five minute DVD’s of a concept or yourself on camera describing your project, and completed films for distribution. We will accept a premise and synopsis, but should we want further information we will likely ask you to show us a script relatively soon.
What are the different kinds of pitches?
There are two kinds of pitches - VIRTUAL (online) and LIVE (in person). In a virtual pitch you upload your pitch and we respond. You can do this anytime, anywhere. In a live pitch you attend a Pitch Session, One-on-One pitch, or other event or workshop that includes a pitch session. These are announced on this site and by email and you may register for specific dates. Pitch Sessions are generally in groups and can be an evening or as much as a whole day. Pitch Sessions may also be included in workshops held by Nehst or another organization or festival. One on One pitches are individual meetings with Larry Meistrich.
What is a live pitch like?
Live pitch sessions are exciting. Larry Meistrich and a number of his development execs attend. They will start the session with an overview of the pitching process, tips on relaxing and catching the producer’s attention. They will give inside industry information, rarely discussed in public, about what producers like and what causes their eyes to glaze over. Individuals pitch to Larry and his team and are given short constructive feedback on how the pitch went, and what might be done to improve certain areas. If Larry is interested in a pitch the creator will be contacted after the session, not during it.
What’s a one-on-one pitch like?
It’s a short casual sitdown with Larry where you pitch your concept. We created it for people who prefer not to pitch in a group. It’s less instructional and more conversational. We’ve been scheduling weekly one-on-ones at quiet hotel lounges – and the schedule is posted on the site.

How do I protect my work?
We recommend you register your work with the Writers Guild of America
https://www.wgaeast.org/script_reg//
and with the US Copyright Office
http://www.copyright.gov/register/literary.html
Why are you asking me if I own the rights?
We really don’t want to see it if you don’t own it and have the right to sell it. If your work is based on another copyrighted work, or portrays real people we will ask you to show agreements that you are allowed to use the material.
What if I have a finished film?
NEHST Studios is actively looking for finished films to distribute. We have major domestic and international distribution resources. We are also developing an full web network for media. NEHST has extremely strong and innovative distributon and promotion strategies and can be a very positive force in the success of your project. We will evaluate projects, on a limited basis, that are in need of completion. Pitch your completed film for distribution the same way everyone submits scripts. Select Virtual Pitch or Live Pitch and mail us your DVD when authorized.
